Marize Verhagen (she/her)

Advocaat

Marize has been working at Liber Dock as a lawyer since February 2025. In 2015 she completed her master’s in Criminal Law and Business Law, specialising in Employment Law. During her studies, Marize gained practical work experience through different management positions and internships at law firms.

After she graduated, Marize worked as a teacher/doctoral candidate at the University of Utrecht and as a Professional Support Lawyer at various law firms. Her doctoral thesis, which she will defend in April 2025, is aimed at the protection of the collective interests of employees by trade unions and the deviation from legal provisions to the detriment of employees that are part of collective bargaining agreements.

Marize focuses on the individual and collective aspects of employment law. Her combined background in both academics and in practice allows her to approach complex legal issues from different angles. This allows her to provide strategic and well thought-out advice that is thoroughly legally substantiated and can be applied in practice.

In addition to her work at Liber Dock, Marize works as an editorial secretary and is a member of the editorial subcommittee of the magazine Tijdschrift Recht en Arbeid (TRA). She is also a member of the board of the Levenbach Institute, which is an association for employment law doctoral candidates. She gives lectures on a regular basis and publishes in various labor law journals, including from her position as a regular annotator of TRA.
